Why shouldn’t authors be read and not seen?

Why shouldn’t authors be read and not seen? Well, Ruskin Bond had an answer ready for that question at a literary do on Friday evening.

“They should be read and not seen because most of them are not good to look at,” he said, as everyone laughed. Ruskin was in the city to honour writers for their contribution to the literary world, at a do hosted by Chandrashekhar Navalkar and R Sriram. A number of prominent authors and avid readers including Amit Chaudhuri, Rajni Bakshi, Sarah Joseph, Mridula Koshy, Siddharta Sharma and Dolly Thakore were present to take part in the do. Ruskin was at his wittiest best as he lamented that there were no awards in his time. For once, it was books and literature on everyone’s minds, even as the rains lashed outside.
