A retired ISRO officer who is a passionate cyclist, he will start his cycle expedition — Naman Shahidon Ko — on October 26 or November 1 and would reach the Gateway of India on November 26, the day his son made the supreme sacrifice.
Unnikrishnan explained why he was undertaking the daunting expedition. "For me it is penance, which I would practise by staying away from the comforts of home and good food. It is not only a good way of spreading awareness about conserving environment, but also for saving precious bio-fuel. In fact, I would appeal to youngsters to use cycle in place of their mobikes," Unnikrishnan told TOI over phone.
Giving him company would be Hira Lal Yadav, who was recently in Allahabad on his way to Kanyakumari on a cycle and who has undertaken several other cycle expeditions since 1998, to spread the message of environment conservation.
