Hartalika Tritiya also known as Hartalika Teej is the celebration for the Married women as well as unmarried girls. The best ever couple as husband and wife Lord Shiva and Parvati “Gauri – Shanker” are worshiped on this day.
Women keeps fast even without to drink a drop of water on Hartalika Teej. Girls also keep fast to be blessed to get a good husband like Lord Shiva or Shankar.
Hartalika Teej comes on the third day of the first fortnight of Hindus month Bhadraprada equal to August- September month in calendar. Hartalika Teej is celebrated at Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra with full of joy and enthusiasm. Hartalika Teej is actually three day celebration at North India and Nepal. But one day celebration is accepted in across the country generally.

Story Behind Hartalika Teej :

The legends behind Hartalika Teej celebration is a small story that after losing Sati Devi lord Shiva ignore whole word Parvati as well. Parvati did severe penance several years to get back Lord Shiva for the world and herself. Lord Shiva get happy by the love and affection of Parvati for him and accept her. So women who want happy and healthy his husband celebrate Hartalika Teej. Temples of Lord Shiva and Parvati are decorated and cleaned. Women goes to temples with all things of Pooja and pray with traditional bhajan songs.
Women’s wake-up early and wear green colored clothes. The wear jewelry, apply Mehandi or heena over Hands and feet. They get ready with all the 16 things called “Solaha – Shringar” which are unique symbol of married women in India. Then they goes to temple for worship.
