Over 60% of the 1,10,206 students who have joined BE/BTech courses under the government quota through the single window counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA 2010) are first generation professional degree learners.
As the fourth and final phase of the counselling drew to a close on Friday, authorities said 66,671 candidates who were allotted seats hail from families which do not have a single graduate for three generations. The government will pay their tuition fees to the tune of Rs 21,000.
