Ways to tackle heat rashes

Along with the soaring temperatures that we have to deal with currently, there are also several skin problems that need our attention.

Heat rashes and prickly skin problems diseases are most rampant right now. Sweat rash and prickly heat are very common in places of intense heat and humidity. Tiny pink bumps or blisters develop on the surface of your skin especially where there is friction from clothing, and can be itchy and irritating.

Here's what you can do to get some relief...

Cool your skin
Apply ice packs on the affected areas for five 5 to 10 minutes at a time and repeat it every four to six hours.

Lotions
There are many non- prescription lotions that help in relieving itching caused by heat rashes. Calamine lotions help in easing irritated areas and even Aloe Vera extract is known to soothe the skin. Apply these lotions about two to three times a day and remember to wash the area thoroughly before re-applying the lotion. Avoid thick creams because they might further aggravate the affected areas.

Powdered bath
Baking powder or finely grounded oatmeal works wonders. Add it to a bucket of warm water and disolve it completely.

Dusting
After a cold bath, dust yourself with baking powder or talcum powder or any absorbent. This helps absorb the excess moisture, which causes rashes.

Air dry
If you have blisters or boils don't cover them with bandages, expose the rash often to clean, fresh air. This helps your skin heal faster.
